The candidate filing period for the Nov. 6 municipal general election in Missouri City began July 21, and notable races include mayor and City Council at-large positions 1 and 2. As of Monday, incumbent Allen Owen and challenger Fred Taylor have filed to run for mayor, and incumbent Jerry Wyatt is running for City Council at-large position 1. Wyatt is unopposed at this time. Newcomer Susan Soto is running for at-large position 2, and incumbent Chris Preston has not filed for reelection at this time. The candidate filing period ends Aug. 20.
