A national security company currently based in Austin is looking to make Leander its new headquarters.

During a meeting Thursday, Leander City Council approved an economic development agreement with American Eagle Protective Services, or AEPS. The company is currently located along US 183 close to I-35 in Austin, according to its website.

The agreement requires the company to have 16 employees making an average salary of $100,000 in its first year of operations. As part of the economic incentive goals, AEPS must purchase two buildings along Crystal Falls Parkway, invest $200,000 worth of improvements into the buildings and build a third building with a value of $500,000 within its first three years of operations.

Leander will reimburse the company’s city property taxes annually for the first five years as long as the company meets the economic incentive goals.

AEPS is expected to launch operations in Leander by the end of the year, according to the city.
