Pflugerville City Council took a necessary step Tuesday night toward calling a $21.1 million bond election by recommending four transportation projects to be prepared for a potential Nov. 6 special election ballot.

Council voted 5-1 to direct the Interim City Manager Trey Fletcher to begin preparations to add the projects to a potential ballot. On Aug. 14, council will vote on whether or not to officially call a November bond election.

Council Member Mike Heath voted against the recommendation, advocating instead for the option of issuing certificates of obligation for design fees for the projects and then prioritizing projects for a future bond election.

The bond funds would go toward design, construction and necessary right-of-way acquisition costs for the following projects:

  • Colorado Sand Drive: Construct the middle section of Colorado Sand Drive to a four-lane urban divided section.

  • Kelly Lane Phase 2: Reconstruct and widen Kelly Lane to an urban four-lane divided section from W. Falcon Pointe Drive to Moorlynch Avenue.

  • Old Austin-Hutto Road: Reconstruct and widen Old Austin-Hutto Road to an urban three-lane section with curb and gutter, storm drain and eliminate low water crossing.

  • E. Pflugerville Parkway Extension/Realignment east of Weiss Lane: Extend Pflugerville Parkway east of Weiss Lane to create a continuous arterial route along today's Jesse Bohls Drive.

Other bond considerations including staff fees and bond issuance costs are included in the bond total.
