The Hays County Commissioners Court lifted the burn ban for unincorporated areas of the county July 10.

Widespread rain in the county has made it safe for outdoor burning, Hays County Fire Marshal Clint Browning said. He said he will continue to monitor the drought index and consult with area fire department chiefs to determine when the ban might need to be placed in effect again.

“Make sure you have a water source available, and your fire should always be attended by a responsible adult,” Browning said, urging residents to take precautions when burning outdoors. “Too often fires are left unattended and are out of control before anyone realizes it.”

The Hays County Commissioners Court first issued a burn ban June 5. Additional information about outdoor burning rules and safe practices is available on the Hays County website.
