Raymond McDonald defeated opponent Annie Jefferson Burnett for Conroe City Council position 4 in a runoff election Saturday night to replace Council Member Guy Martin.
McDonald earned 1,326 votes, or 67.45 percent, while Burnett received 640 votes, or 32.55 percent.
McDonald is a senior pastor of Vineyard Church of Conroe who formerly worked for an excavation firm as a cost estimator for contract with Harris County Flood Control District. Before that, he owned a small cable installation company and built and sold cars.
His top priorities are strengthening fire and police departments, supporting economic development to attract businesses and remaining proactive about groundwater issues, he said in a previous Q&A with
Community Impact Newspaper.
McDonald said following May's election that he and Burnett were very good friends. He could not be reached for comment on Saturday night.
Burnett is a retired manager and trainer fro the U.S. Postal Service. She serves on the Conroe Community Development Block Grant committee, is a mentor at Conroe ISD and was formerly the president of Montgomery County's chapter of the NAACP.
