According to a release from the city, the Sugar Land Animal Shelter is offering special adoption rates for a limited time due to overcrowding.
The shelter is housing over 120 cats, Animal Services Manager Kathryn Ketchum said. Cats can be adopted at a lower rate of $40 instead of $95 until Aug. 26.
"We do not euthanize for space," Ketchum said. "Shelter staff and volunteers strive to provide the best care and find homes for all of our adoptable animals at the shelter."
Additionally, any pets who have been at the shelter for more than 30 days can be adopted for $20.
Adoption fees cover vaccinations, spaying and neutering, and microchipping with a lifetime registration, according to the release.
The shelter offers a Sleepover Program so that potential owners can spend three to five days with their pet before deciding whether to adopt.
