Trixie’s Coffee Shop owner Lynda Ford—known to her customers as Trixie—said she has always enjoyed a nice cup of exquisite coffee. The former property manager now welcomes the community to do the same at her Montgomery coffee shop, which offers hand-roasted coffees, pastries and desserts.
The main idea driving the shop’s design was creating a place where people in the community could connect with each other, Ford said.
“I designed the coffee shop so people can get cozy with their coffee, and visit with each other and us, sitting on our couches or out on the patio,” she said. “I want people to walk in and say, ‘This is my home.’”
Ford said she has been roasting her own coffee beans since she had her first taste in Washington state more than 20 years ago. In 2013, the Conroe High School graduate finally realized her dream of opening her own coffee shop in an area she loves.
“It was hard at first, when some days I was only making $20 or $30 a day, but it was worth sticking around for,” she said. “I love it here.”
Patrons seem to feel the same way, Ford said. Most of the regulars know the baristas, and each other, on a first-name basis.
“I’m a little bit of a coffee freak because of where I’m from, and I love the wholesome coffee here,” said Jessica Morgan, a newcomer to the shop and a Seattle native. “I always look for a coffee shop that I can belong to.”
Ford said providing a wide variety of flavors, milk and sweeteners is a key to success. The shop offers Ford’s hand-roasted Guatemalan, Ethiopian, Colombian and Brazilian coffee blends; specialty beverages like lattes, cappuccinos, mochas and blended frappes; and a range of flavors for patrons to choose, like orange dreamsicle, root beer, chai, pumpkin spice, toasted marshmallow and salted caramel.
“[Ford] can make anything, and it’s unbelievable,” customer Harvey LeMaster said. “People come here because they can’t get drinks like this anywhere else.”
