The thunderstorm that passed through Highland Village on Wednesday formed winds of approximately 50 mph. As a result, the city received substantial damage to several trees in the area. According to the city of Highland Village, individual homeowners are responsible for the removal of trees and limbs on their property. The city has coordinated with the Waste Management Department to provide three roll-off dumpsters for residents to dispose of their debris. The dumpsters will be available at Southwood Well Lot, located at 5001 Village Parkway, from Friday, June 22 to Tuesday, June 26. Residents may choose to wait for Monday’s yard waste pick up, but must follow Waste Management restrictions, which includes: • Residents are allowed up to 20 bundles and bags of yards waste. • Bags must be brown paper kraft bags. • Bundles must not exceed 4 feet or 35 lbs. If residents exceed the amount of waste allowed, Waste Management will leave a tag notification of excess materials. The excess will then be collected by Waste Management the following Monday. Residents may also choose to place the materials out to be serviced with their garbage, however, Waste Management requires that it be bagged or in a container and limited to ten bags or containers. In the instance that a resident has more waste than the amount allowed for Monday’s pick up they can refer to the following options: • Residents are allowed a once-per-month trip to the DFW landfill for disposal of 3 cubic yards of waste, which is the same as one level standard pickup truck bed. To dispose of waste at the landfill, residents must show their driver’s license and a current water bill with the same address to confirm residency. All waste must be covered by a tarp by Texas State Law. • Residents may request a pickup at http://home.wm.com/highland-village under the “Bulky Collection Tab.”
