Steven Berberich was named senior vice president for academic affairs and provost for the University of Houston-Clear Lake. His first day on the job is July 2. Berberich succeeds Glen Houston, who has been serving in the interim role since 2016. Houston will serve as special assistant to the provost before retiring in August. “Steven Berberich is an experienced administrator, and an extremely accomplished educator. We are genuinely pleased to have him join us at UH-Clear Lake,” UHCL President Ira Blake said in a printed statement. “We’re gaining an outstanding academic leader and faculty development advocate with a deep understanding of diverse students’ needs at both the graduate and undergraduate level.” Berberich previously served at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, as associate provost for faculty and staff affairs. “I look forward to this next chapter of my professional life. The success of higher education is tied to the people in the organization, and I am truly enthusiastic about everyone I have met at UHCL, from leadership to staff,” Berberich said.
