The existing bridge at the intersection of Hwy. 183 and Montopolis Drive has been demolished as of Friday night, June 15. Southbound traffic on Hwy. 183 and Airport Boulevard will no longer be affected and therefore drivers will no longer have to detour around the deconstruction site.

Drivers who wish to access Hwy. 183 from Montopolis Drive in East Austin will have a year's worth of detours due to the reconstruction of the existing bridge at the intersection.

The bridge will be demolished and replaced with an improved one, according to a release from Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority. Once completed, traffic from Montopolis Drive will have full access to both northbound and southbound Hwy. 183. The bridge will be demolished at night June 15-18.

For the next 12 months, traffic coming from Montopolis Drive can get on to Hwy. 183 via a newly constructed roadway that connects Montopolis Drive to Vargas Road. All southbound traffic from Hwy. 183 must exit at Bolm Road and detour their way back on to the highway.

Bicycle and pedestrian access will not be allowed across Hwy. 183 at both Montopolis Drive and Vargas Road. Capital Metro bus stops along Vargas Road near Hwy. 183 will also be closed.
