The Woodlands Township board of directors approved a resolution of support for the Spring Creek Reservoir project during a Wednesday board meeting. The Spring Creek Reservoir project is identified in Gov. Greg Abbott’s Commission to Rebuild Texas list of public infrastructure flood mitigation projects. Township Director Bruce Rieser, who also serves on the township’s Drainage Task Force, said the group has been working to find solutions for flood mitigation in the area and is in support of the project. "In the nine months we’ve been working since Hurricane Harvey, we’ve done an enormous amount of work," Rieser said. "One of the things that did come out of the task force is a request initiated by the [Woodlands Joint Powers Agency] and MUD 386 to support the completion of the Spring Creek Reservoir plan. It’s becoming clear that this is the only way we can get control of Spring Creek." Rieser said the project will go down a long road and the Drainage Task Force has plans to set up talks with Gov. Abbot to gain support for the project. "We estimated it would be 10 to 15 years to get this done," he said. "There would be a lot of hurdles to get this done and the governor's support would be great. We’re putting together a delegation to go to Austin to speak directly to the governor and get his support for the project. I’m also trying to get a meeting now fixed with Sen. [Brandon] Creighton to go over various options we can take to move this project forward."
