On May 15, Southlake City Council unanimously approved the first reading of a zoning change and site plan for 10 office buildings at Southlake Commons at a regular meeting Tuesday. The project is generally located south of West Southlake Boulevard and west of South White Chapel Boulevard, adjacent to First Financial Bank at 151 W. Southlake Blvd., Southlake. The request Tuesday night sought to rezone the lot and receive site plan approval to allow construction of 10 single-story general and medical office buildings totaling approximately 64,676 square feet on approximately 7.5 acres. The project proposes connections to existing driveways that access onto West Southlake Boulevard and South White Chapel Boulevard. Mayor Laura Hill said this access has always been what was planned. She said White Chapel Boulevard has been expanded with the idea that this site would eventually be developed. The site has come to the council several times in the recent past, but those requests were withdrawn. "I think this is a much better plan than what we’ve seen in the past," Council Member Shahid Shafi said. A fence will be constructed along the entire length of the southern boundary of the property between the office spaces and the residential neighborhood to the south. A second reading on the project will take place next month.
