Magnolia ISD announced in an April news release assistant principals for its two new intermediate schools opening to students in August.

Construction of Bear Branch Intermediate School, located on Ken Lake Drive, and Magnolia Intermediate School, located on Nichols Sawmill Road, was funded by a $92 million bond referendum approved by MISD voters in November 2015. The intermediate campuses will house fifth- and sixth-grade students, replacing Magnolia and Bear Branch sixth-grade campuses.

According to a release from the district, Jim Gassaway will serve as assistant principal for Bear Branch Intermediate School, bringing 16 years of experience in public education. Gassaway has been an assistant principal at Nichols Sawmill Elementary School for the past three years, according to district information.

Angela Martinez, a teacher at the Magnolia Sixth Grade Campus with 15 years of experience in education, will serve as assistant principal at the new Magnolia Intermediate campus, according to an April 6 release from the district.

“I look forward to working with all stakeholders to ensure the continued success of our amazing learning community,” Martinez said in a statement.

MISD Director of Communications Denise Meyers said Tommy Burns and Lisa Bertrand, the principals at Bear Branch and Magnolia sixth-grade campuses, respectively, will assume principal responsibilities at the district’s new intermediate campuses for the 2018-19 school year. Previously, the district did not have assistant principals at the sixth-grade campuses, Meyers said.
