With enrollment expected in a moderate-growth scenario to increase by around 995 students in the 2018-19 school year, Leander ISD plans to add new staff members to meet the needs of a potentially larger student body, according to district documents.

At a meeting Feb. 15 LISD trustees approved the early release of 85.5 full-time equivalent positions. By passing these positions, the district will be able to begin recruiting for the jobs early, according to the documents.

"As we go through [the] budget process, we look at our enrollment projections and then we see our staffing ratios, pair those two together and see where our needs [are]," LISD Chief Financial Officer Lucas Janda said.

The approved positions include 24 high school teaching positions, 15 special education positions, nine middle school teaching positions and nine elementary teaching positions, among other employees, according to the documents.

The LISD board approved the positions with an approximate cost of $4,657,533 at its meeting Feb. 15.
