The Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts is halfway through its renovation following flooding from Hurricane Harvey, and museum officials said they expect the museum to be open in May to celebrate its 10th anniversary with an exhibit of renowned American artists.

The noncollecting museum, which first opened at 6815 Cypresswood Drive, Spring, in 2008, will be restored to its original appearance, including repairs to mechanical and climate control systems, according to a news release.

The inaugural exhibit for the newly renovated museum will include paintings from the Chip Hosek collection, including works by Grandma Moses, Norman Rockwell and Andrew Wyeth. The museum's art classes, school programs, family days, concerts and other community events will return when it is up and running, officials said.

A fundraising campaign has been underway since flooding swept down Cypresswood Drive in late August, damaging facilities including PFMA, the neighboring Barbara Bush Branch Library and The Centrum performance space at Cypress Creek Christian Community Center. PFMA has not set a specific fundraising goal.

“We have been very fortunate that the community has been quite generous,” said Calvin Cobb, chairman of the museum's board of directors.

Fundraising is ongoing, and the museum's annual fundraising dinner, the Pearls of Art Gala will be held March 24 , at The Ballroom at Bayou Place, 500 Texas Ave., Houston.
