At Monday night's Lewisville ISD trustee meeting, Chief Financial Officer Mike Ball told trustees district officials are analyzing bus routes to prepare recommendations for the 2018‐19 hazardous bus routes.

Per the Texas Education Code: “A hazardous condition exists where no walkway is provided and children must walk along or cross a freeway or expressway, an underpass, an overpass or a bridge, an uncontrolled major traffic artery, an industrial or commercial area, or another comparable condition."

Ball said trustees can expect some changes to be presented as transportation needs are expected to change.

In a report, it was mentioned while overall district enrollment is declining, pockets of growth exist in the eastern portion of the district. This may require the repurposing of any existing routes in areas that may no longer meet the state's definition of hazardous routes. There may be a need for the addition of new routes in 2‐mile eligible or remaining hazardous areas.

Ball said the introduction of Donald Elementary’s STEM Academy and the The Colony High School Collegiate Academy will also necessitate the need for the repurposing of routes that may no longer qualify as eligible and/or the addition of new routes to meet the needs of these programs.
