WHAT WE REPORTED: Leander ISD board of trustees decided to move forward with plans to consider becoming a district of innovation, or DOI, which would allow the district’s calendar to be adjusted, potentially for the school year to start and end earlier, Superintendent Dan Troxell said.

THE LATEST: The LISD board directed district administration to create a DOI plan committee Dec. 7. The committee will create a DOI plan with the parameters to focus on calendar flexibility only.

WHAT’S NEXT: The DOI plan was posted for the public on Jan. 12 and residents can provide feedback during a 30-day period at www.leanderisd.org/DOI, according to the LISD website. If the LISD board chooses to approve the plan with the calendar flexibility exemption only, no other exemptions would be allowed, according to LISD Chief of Staff Matt Smith.
