What we reported Officials with the Texas Department of Transportation pushed back the target completion date for a project to widen Hwy. 290 to the end of 2018. The project involves widening the highway to five mainlanes between Loop 610 and Hwy. 6 and four mainlanes between FM 1960 and the Harris County line.

The latest Construction progressed throughout 2017 on highway mainlanes and frontage roads. TxDOT officials believe they will be able to open all mainlanes by the end of 2018. Work on an overpass that will streamline traffic over Hwy. 290 from Hwy. 6 to FM 1960 will begin in 2018 but will carry on into 2019.

What’s next The first projects to open will likely be those covering lanes west of the Grand Parkway. The projects from Loop 610 to Beltway 8 would open closer to the end of the year. The projects that will likely open last are around FM 1960, Huffmeister Road and North Eldridge Parkway.
