Tomball ISD FFA Show, TxDOT to explore plans to expand FM 2920 and 4 other things to know in Tomball and Magnolia this week, Jan. 22-26

Here’s what Tomball and Magnolia residents should know this week.

1. The Greater Tomball Area Chamber of Commerce and Lone Star College's Small Business Development Center is hosting an Export Workshop on behalf of the U.S. Small Business Administration on Wednesday, Jan. 24. The event will provide insight from export experts such as selecting export foreign buyers or purchasing export insurance. 8:30-10:30 a.m. Free. Beckendorf Conference Center, LSC-Tomball, 30555 Hwy. 249, Tomball. Registration is required.

2. The Texas Department of Transportation is hosting a public meeting on Thursday, Jan. 25, to discuss the expansion and widening of FM 2920 from Hwy. 290 to Hwy. 249. Learn more about TxDOT's plans here. 5:30 p.m. Tomball High School, 20220 Quinn Road, Tomball.

3. The 42nd Annual Tomball ISD FFA Project Show and Sale is scheduled throughout the week, Jan. 25-27. On Thursday, the rabbit show starts at 11 a.m., and the broiler, turkey and swine shows start at 1 p.m. On Friday, the shows include the special rodeo at 8:30 a.m., the goat and lamb show starting at 1 p.m. and the steer show at 5 p.m. On Saturday, the buckle and trophy presentation begins at 11:30 a.m; buyer’s lunch is noon to 2 p.m., and the live auction will start at 2:30 p.m. Free.

4. Check voter registration status or register to vote at The last day to register to vote is Feb. 5. Early voting for the March primary election starts Feb. 20 and ends March 2. The last day to apply for a ballot by mail is Feb. 23. The primary elections will take place March 6.

5. Considering running for office? The last day to file for a place on the general election ballot is Feb. 16 at 5 p.m.

6. Beware of lane closures on FM 2678 in Montgomery County. The northbound and southbound lanes from Conroe Hufsmith Road to Carraway Lane are closed daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 22, to Friday, Jan. 26, according to the Houston TranStar database. Two alternate lanes are available.

Harris County commissioners propose lower tax rates with split vote
