What we reported

Local businesses attributed faltering sales to the construction taking place on SH 26. Val Lopez, Texas Department of Transportation public information officer, said the department will help businesses in any way it can.

The latest

The $38.2 million project is still scheduled for completion in 2019 and includes financial incentives from TxDOT for early completion and disincentives for late completion. The project consists of the widening of SH 26/Colleyville Boulevard from four lanes with a continuous left-turn lane to six lanes with raised curb medians with left-turn bays, continuous sidewalks and improved signals. During construction two lanes of traffic have been maintained in each direction, and lane closures have been scheduled during off-peak travel times to minimize the impact on motorists.

What’s next

SH 26 traffic will be shifted to the new pavement as Phase 2 of the project begins in the coming weeks. Phase 2 activity will construct lanes next to the median area in each direction and the middle and west section of the Little Bear Creek bridge. Phase 3 of the project will begin in late 2018 and will construct the northbound lanes and reconstruct the east side streets that tie into SH 26.
