The city of Fulshear is in the process of hiring a new city manager, Assistant City Manager Paula Ryan said. Ryan is the acting city manager until someone is hired to fill the role. The city has hired Strategic Government Resources to assist them with recruiting candidates for the position.

“We worked through creating a position profile during the month of December, and we posted it on Jan. 2 of this year.” Ryan said.

SGR is a recruiting firm that focuses their efforts on recruiting government employees for executive and interim management positions. The company also offers training in-person and online.

The application window will close Feb. 2, and the city will then work with SGR to narrow down the candidates and choose which of them will be interviewed, Ryan said. The city hopes to have someone selected by the end of March at the latest, but city officials would prefer the person already be working in the position as soon as possible she said.

The posting for the position indicates that the new city manager must have at least a bachelor's degree in public administration, business administration or a similar field and that masters degrees are preferred. The pay range for the new city manager is advertised as being from $145,000 to $170,000.
Once hired, the city manager for Fulshear will manage an annual operating budget of $16.6 million, with a projected $14.1 million in capital improvement projects on the horizon. The city manager will be in charge of 45 full-time and three part-time staff.

The new executive for the city will also need to help chart a path through Fulshear’s rapid growth. At the time of the 2010 census, the U.S. Census Bureau recorded a total population of 1,134. Using utility district data, the city now estimates that it has grown to a population of 9,600, Ryan said.
