Beginning in January, single-family residential properties in Lewisville will see a $4 stormwater utility fee on their water bills. The city of Lewisville is implementing this fee in order to fund more than $33 million in stormwater infrastructure repairs and improvements. City staff members say the fee will save single-family residential customers money. It is estimated residents will save about $18 a year through the stormwater utility fee versus having the city raise property taxes enough to pay for the improvement projects. Commercial and multifamily properties will pay $1.43 a month per 1,000 feet of impervious surface. It is estimated that Lewisville will raise about $3 million per fiscal year through this fee. The funding can only be used for improving drainage in flood-prone areas, improving the existing storm drain system, constructing new drainage systems, erosion control or restoration projects, stormwater public education, and operations and maintenance of the municipal drainage system.
