Collin College has received a second designation as a National Center of Excellence for its nursing program. The college has been recognized for its nursing simulation by CAE Healthcare.

“Simulation is an integral part of our students’ education, and as such, we are elated to earn this Center of Excellence designation recognizing the time and effort our staff puts into that training,” Donna Hatch, dean of nursing at Collin College, said in a news release.

CAE Healthcare President Robert Amyot said in the release that a designation is given to an institution which exemplifies best practices in the use of simulation-based training to improve patient care.

“The [Center of Excellence] designation recognizes leaders on the cutting edge of health care simulation who are driven by a pioneering vision to advance simulation and evidence-based outcomes,” Amyot said.

The college received its first designation in 2011 in nursing education.

Collin College is currently working to offer a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree for students. The college is finalizing its application to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and plans to submit it in early 2018.

Before offering the degree, the college must also submit an application to be accredited to offer baccalaureate degrees by the Southern Associate of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. The college also must obtain approval from the Texas Board of Nursing.

The college is aiming to offer the BSN in fall 2019.
