For the holidays, customers can preorder handmade pies from The Meating Place Barbeque and Bakery. The pecan pie is a popular choice at The Meating Place and is made with dark corn syrup and a homemade, all-butter crust, restaurant baker Hanna Hesse said.

Hesse said she likes to use a dark corn syrup to make it sweeter

“I like to do an all-dark corn syrup. It has more molasses, so it’s a little sweeter, [and] it has more of a Southern flare to it,” she said.

The restaurant also offers pumpkin, apple, buttermilk, coconut cream, key lime and chocolate cheesecake pies for the holidays. Each pie sells for $20, and a piece of pie is $3.50.

Customers can order a slice of pie alongside the eatery’s barbecue menu or take a pie to go.

“There’s just something about having a nice savory piece of barbecue,” Hesse said. “You want that sugar fix after you get all that savory stuff in your system.”
