The McKinney Public Library System updated its five-year goals to include a bilingual collection, the addition of color and double-sided printing services, and mobile libraries to serve the community in spring 2018.

Other goals include the following:

  • expanding and improving digital signage and wayfinding;

  • expanding facilities at the John and Judy Gay Library;

  • expanding adult fiction;

  • incorporating a database search tool into the existing catalog;

  • rearranging the Roy and Helen Hall Memorial Library collections;

  • introduce a 24-hour, 7,000-square-foot storefront library;

  • providing e-mail and cloud storage to library account holders; and

  • digitalizing local history collections.

The long-range plan was updated to serve as a guide for the Library Advisory Board and library staff, according to a city press release.

The previous plan ran from 2005-15, and it included the construction and grand opening of the John and Judy Gay Library. Since 2005 the libraries have seen juvenile circulation increase 613 percent, circulation increase 133 percent, service usage grow 106 percent and reference transactions increase 93 percent, according to the release.
