Harris County Commissioners Court discussed several issues relating to flooding recovery this morning at the Harris County Administration Building located at 1001 Preston St., Houston. Here are three of the items the court passed:

  1. Commissioners and Judge Ed Emmett passed a resolution allowing Harris County Flood Control District to begin discussing stormwater detention options with engineering firms along Buffalo Bayou Between Hwy. 6 and Beltway 8. The type of detention infrastructure required in this area would depend upon the results of a vegetation study that HCFCD began earlier this year. This survey will identify which trees along this section of Buffalo Bayou naturally help mitigate flooding and which do not.

  2. The court approved the acceptance $13,275,227 in grant funds for HCFCD from the Texas Water Development Board. This funding will be used to acquire and demolish certain homes at risk of repetitive flood damage which were identified through the 2016 Federal Emergency Management Agency Flood Mitigation Assistance Program.

  3. The court passed a resolution establishing a committee to assist with the recovery process for the Harris County Criminal Justice Center—located at 1201 Franklin Street—which sustained significant damage during Hurricane Harvey. A timeline for the center's reopening has not yet been established, according the county’s webpage.

The next Commissioners Court meeting will be held at 10 a.m. Dec. 5
