Advanced Dentistry in Sugar Land provides all facets of dental services and procedures. However, Dr. Varghese John, the practice’s founder and a Sugar Land resident, is most passionate about rehabilitative dentistry, the practice of restoring damaged teeth.

“People who have lost teeth might not want to go out or have their picture taken,” John said. “People with dentures are sometimes afraid to smile or laugh for fear of them falling out.”

Advanced Dentistry provides cosmetic dentistry, oral surgery, bridges and implants, along with regular exams and cleanings.

John opened the practice at Dairy Ashford Road and Hwy. 90 in 1996. In 2015, John moved the business to a bigger location in the same shopping plaza. The new space provided him more than double the square footage and allowed him to offer all types of dental services.

“The objective was to provide all specialties under one roof,” he said.

The practice contains 10 operating rooms, and its full-time staff includes two hygienists, three dental assistants and three front office staffers.

John was born in Malaysia, and he attended high school in India, where he also studied premedicine. Afterward, he attended dental school in the Philippines, and completed his postgraduate work in England.

John came to the U.S. in 1993, where he worked as an associate for another dentist for three years before he opened his own practice.

The thing John most enjoys about dentistry is the relationships he is able to develop with his patients, he said.

“A surgeon usually only works on a patient once and that’s it, but a dentist sees his patients for cleanings every six months," he said.

John said he welcomes the challenge of repairing damaged teeth rather than replacing them.

“You don’t always have to pull them,” he said. “You can bring them back into healthy tooth function.”
