City of Katy officials said Monday that a new segment of Franz Road, from Avenue D to Scott Ranch Road, is open for drivers. The intersection with Avenue D will have flashing lights instead of a regular stoplight until the intersection is fully open, officials said. Since last October the city has been working to relocate and widen the road to a four-lane boulevard for $2.1 million.
The original portion of Franz Road that lies between Avenue D and Reston Falls Lane will be renamed Franz Court, and the rest of Franz Road will eventually be widened all the way to the Cane Island master-planned community. At Cane Island, the street becomes Bartlett Road. As part of the project, a bridge over the Cane Island Branch of Buffalo Bayou was substantially complete earlier this month, and the entire project is expected to last until summer 2018.
