The city of Conroe is studying the possible annexation of 11 parcels of land in 2017, ranging from major subdivisions to single commercial tracts. On Oct. 12, Conroe City Council approved a resolution to move forward with the study and public hearing phase of the annexation process of those land parcels, which include the Lakewood Estates, Lake Conroe Village, Riverbrook and Carriage Hills neighborhoods. However, approval of the process is not approval of annexation, and another vote would be required by City Council on Dec. 14 to annex those properties, city officials said during the meeting. If approved on that date, annexed communities would become a part of the city on Dec. 31. The state Legislature approved Senate Bill 6 on Aug. 15, which prevents local municipalities from being able to annex unincorporated areas without voter consent. The law goes into effect Dec. 1.
