1. Westwood Elementary School turns 50 in October
Westwood Elementary School turns 50 this month. Westwood principal Kristin Moffitt presented facts about the elementary school, including that the mascot used to be a panther and the school opened a wing in 1993. To celebrate 50 years, the school will be having a birthday party at Literacy Night on Oct. 17.
2. Board approves project to turn former boardroom into office spaces
In April the FISD board moved from 302 Laurel Drive, Friendswood, to 402 Laurel Drive, Friendswood. The proposal was for the board vote to convert the former boardroom space to four offices, a conference room and a reception area. The board approved a project cost not to exceed $120,000. “It sounds like an excellent plan,” board President Rebecca Hillenburg said. The board unanimously approved the motion.
3. Board nominates candidate for Galveston Central Appraisal District board of directors
The FISD board nominated Mary Patricia Hanks as a candidate for the GCAD board of directors. “I am recommending a known name to you who is ready to get back into public life,” Superintendent Thad Roher said. The board unanimously approved the motion.
