Austin Community College's Accelerated Programmer Training Program has been selected as one of eight finalists for the annual Star Award, which is presented by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to programs that widen access to higher education and training.
"It's an honor to be recognized as a finalist for this prestigious award," ACC President and CEO Richard Rhodes said in a news release. "The APT program has been a valuable initiative in partnership with the IT employees to strengthening our pipeline for critically needed tech workers."
The APT program offers instruction in computer programming, software testing, computer support and database administration. Students enrolled in the program also receive career services such as resume writing and interview preparation.
Military veterans and adults with previous technical experience who are unemployed or underemployed have especially benefitted from the program, according to the news release.
The Coordinating Board received 44 nominations and 41 applications for the Star Award and will announce the winner on December 1.
