Hutto's City Council decided Thursday night to delay the construction process on the Limmer Loop sidewalk project for another two weeks due to logistical concerns. City Council members had the opportunity to award a construction contract for the project, but instead tabled the bid for two weeks to address drainage and cost concerns. Taylor-based Patin Construction submitted the lowest bid on the project and is set to be awarded the contract. Council Member Scott Rose voiced concerns about the drainage plan for the project. “Kids are going to be walking in the rain. We need to make sure that area is dry,” Rose said. The Patin Construction bid is locked in for 30 days and will not increase in cost if City Council approves the bid at its next meeting on Oct. 19. The Limmer Loop Sidewalk Project will add approximately 2,200 feet of sidewalk, connecting Cottonwood Creek Elementary School to FM 1660 North. The construction project includes sidewalk, ramps, drainage structures, pavement markings and signage. Hutto ISD is looking to roll back bus routes to Cottonwood Creek Elementary School and make the area more accommodating to pedestrian commuting from the adjoining neighborhoods.   The bid from Patin Construction already came in at a higher value than the initial projected budget. Patin Construction’s bid totals $1,525,536, almost half a million more than the Texas Department of Transportation Advance Funding Agreement projected cost for the project. According to Patin Construction’s bid, the City of Hutto will incur approximately $680,000 through a combination of engineering and construction costs, as well as additional utility fees. TxDOT is expected to foot the rest of the bill. Per Hutto City Engineer Matthew Rector, the city is paying more due to potential flooding issues because of a ditch on the northern side of Limmer Loop.
