Plano ISD has tapped Randy McDowell, the chief financial officer at Rockwall ISD, to replace retiring CFO Steve Fortenberry. The Plano ISD board of trustees on Tuesday announced McDowell will start Nov. 6 as assistant superintendent for business services, leaving almost two months where his time will overlap with that of Fortenberry. The district announced in August that Fortenberry intended to retire at the end of December after nearly 35 years in public education. Fortenberry has served as the district's chief financial officer since 2012 and had a previous stint with Plano ISD. McDowell has served as Rockwall ISD's chief financial officer since 2015, and served in a similar role at Canyon ISD prior to that time, according to a district release.
