Here's what you need to know in San Marcos, Kyle and Buda this week:
1. San Marcos City Council meets Monday
Moved due to National Night out on Tuesday, the San Marcos City Council meeting includes a discussion on poverty, a proposal to have an innovation district in downtown San Marcos and the approval of a contract for the site of the city's new public services and community services maintenance facility. The council meets at 5:30 p.m. in City Hall.
2. New fiscal year budgets go into effect
Local entities and school boards have all passed budgets for the next fiscal year, which runs Oct. 1, 2017-Sept. 30, 2018. Here's a recap of the budgets passed in

3. Last day to register to vote approaches
Next Tuesday, Oct. 10, is the last day residents can register to vote in the Nov. 7 elections. San Marcos, Buda and Kyle have 19 candidates filing for election. The city of San Marcos also has city charter amendments on the ballot.

4. Kyle City Council meets this week
Kyle City Council members will consider updating the city's transportation master plan and adding two zoning districts. The council meets Wednesday at Kyle City Hall, 100 W. Center St., at 7 p.m.
5. Buda City Council hears about water conservation
Council members meet Monday for a presentation on water conservation and drought contingency planning efforts. The regular City Council meeting takes place at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 121 S. Main St.
