Montgomery County and city officials meet this week for their regularly scheduled meetings. Agenda items approved during these meetings affect residents on a local and regional level. Here is what is happening this week, Sept. 25-29: Montgomery County Commissioners Court meets Tuesday morning Montgomery County Commissioners Court gathers Tuesday to discuss and take action on agenda items pertaining to the county. Agenda items include consideration of the Human Trafficking Rescue Alliance (HTRA) task force between the Montgomery County sheriff’s office and the city of Houston. Approval of the agenda item would allow the hiring of a detective to work with the city and law enforcement officials to assist in investigations connected with the human trafficking grant program. Commissioners will also consider and take possible action on an interlocal agreement between Montgomery County and the Houston-Galveston Area Council for hazard mitigation planning. Approval of the agenda item would allow the county to apply for Federal Emergency Management Agency Pre-Disaster Mitigation and Hazard Mitigation Grant Program funds, which would allow the county to perform risk assessments and mitigation strategies prior to natural disasters like Hurricane Harvey. Council members will discuss and take action on various agenda items, including a rezoning request of 0.28 acres of land for commercial use south of Flagship Boulevard, as well as a possible amendment to the Montgomery Economic Development Corporation’s mission, goals and objectives statement. The agenda item proposing an amendment to the MEDC’s mission comes after council members debated the department’s contribution to the city’s economic growth during the Sept. 12 meeting.
