Adult and children's entries for The Woodlands Wildflower Festival poster and bag contests, respectively, are now being accepted, The Woodlands Development Company announced Sept. 11.

Both contests will be held during The Woodlands 30th annual Wildflower Festival on Nov. 4.

Contest entries should portray a nature scene and be drawn or painted on heavy, unlined white paper, canvas or a poster board, no larger than 11 by 17 inches. Preferred drawing materials are watercolors, oils, pen and ink, pastels, crayons, colored pencils or markets. No writing should be included on the front of the artwork.

Each entry should be labeled on the back with the artists’ name, address, phone number and age (for children’s entries only). Entries should be turned in at The Woodlands Development Company, 1790 Hughes Landing Blvd., Ste. 600, The Woodlands, before Oct. 2 at 5 p.m. Winner will be notified the following week.

Entries will be judged and prizes awarded in the following age groups: 4 years old and younger, 5-8 years old, 9-13 years old, 14-18 years old and 19 years and older.

First place prizes of $100 will be awarded in each children’s category and a first place prize of $300 will be awarded in the adult category. The grand prize-winning entry across the four children’s categories will be used on the official recycled bag sold during the festival and the winning adult entry will become the official poster also sold at the festival.

Proceeds from bag and poster sales will benefit The Woodlands Lion Club.

This Woodlands 30th annual Wildflower Festival event will take place Nov. 4 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Hughes Landing and will feature a variety of wildflower seed giveaways, giant inflatable rides, a petting zoo, gardening and native plant exhibits and music. The Woodlands mascot Puffy Pine Cone and Bridgeland’s mascot Bridgeland Bill will also make special appearances.

The family-friendly event is free and open to the public.
