On Tuesday night, the Round Rock ISD board of trustees moved forward with asking potential trustee candidates to consent to background checks in the appointment process.
The board is looking at adding a district policy that would require trustee applicants (only in the case of appointments, not in the case of elections) to consent in writing to a background check, including but not limited to a criminal history background check.
The board reviewed this policy change on first reading at its Tuesday night workshop, but must read the policy change a second time before issuing final approval.
This change comes after the
board appointed Stuart Selvaggi to the vacant Place 6 seat left open by Paul Tisch. Selvaggi resigned less than two weeks after his appointment upon the question of his financial past and residency in the district.
As a result, the board discussed
ways to add in background check requirements to the appointment process, leading to Tuesday night's discussion.
Trustee Mason Moses said at a future meeting the board would discuss having applicants fill out a specific form with personal information. This will likely be discussed at the RRISD meeting scheduled for Sept. 11.
