Montgomery County Commissioners Court met Friday evening to discuss matters related to Hurricane Harvey. The court approved pay for county employees during the storm and funding sources for expenditures incurred during the storm.

  1. The court extended a local declaration of disaster originally issued by the court Aug. 25. The local declaration expires after seven days and must be extended for it not to expire.

  2. Commissioners approved pay for county employees for work during Hurricane Harvey for every hour worked. Officials said pay for employees could be recoverable through disaster relief assistance from the federal government.

  3. Officials discussed how the county will manage debris from Hurricane Harvey. The county plans to pick-up debris at designated areas and transport it to a temporary site for disaster debris. The temporary site is expected to be approved by the Texas Commission of Environmental Quality over the weekend.

  4. The court approved procedures on how to accept donations. Officials expressed concern over accepting cash or gift-card donations and plan to direct monetary donations to local organizations and nonprofits.

  5. County staff reported some damage to county facilities that is being assessed.
