Leander, Cedar Park first responders take resources to Montgomery County

Leander and Cedar Park fire departments have sent resources and personnel to assist in rescue efforts in Montgomery County in the wake of Hurricane Harvey.

A Leander battalion chief, a Type 1 fire engine and a swift-water rescue boat along with a rescue team were deployed Aug. 28 at the request of the state of Texas. The teams will work in the Greater Houston area for 14 days where they will assist with evacuations, fire suppression, rescues, evacuation and recovery efforts. From Cedar Park, Fire Engine 4 with four firefighters were sent as part of the Texas Interstate Fire Mutual Aid System.

Leander Fire has personnel working with regional partners with planning and operations at the Homeland Security and Emergency Management’s joint regional response for shelters of evacuees. The department has also assigned staff to the state emergency operation center to assist with ongoing events as part of the state operations center support team.

"The Leander Fire Department’s philosophy is: 'To solve our customer’s problem, no matter what it may be,’" said community outreach coordinator Carol Nelson Rabago in a press release. "For the next few weeks, we will serve our neighbors in Montgomery County with the same commitment to excellence as we give our residents in Leander."

The Cedar Park Police Department sent its tactical rescue vehicle with one Cedar Park Police officer and one other police officer from a neighboring department in the area so far at the request of the Houston Police Department.
