August

16, First day of school Students return to the district for the 2017-18 school year after summer vacation

September

4, Labor Day Schools closed to student and staff in observance of the holiday.

October

9, Columbus Day Schools closed to students and staff in observance of the holiday 10, Professional development day No class for students, but teachers and staff report to campus. 11, Lake Travis Family Night The district will assign no homework to students to allow for more family time. 13, End of the first grading period 13, Cavaliers  vs. Chaparrals Lake Travis High School visits rival Westlake High School for a football game at 7:30 p.m.

November

7, Election Day District voters will decide the fate of the district’s proposed bond package, as well as vote in a tax ratification election. 10, Cavaliers vs. Vipers Lake Travis High School visits Vandegrift High School for a football game at 7:30 p.m. 20-24, Fall Break The district is closed for the week in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday Nov. 23.

December

21, End of the second grading period/early release day 22, Professional development day Students have the Friday before winter break off while teachers finish final grades. 25-Jan. 5, Winter Break School will be closed for the two-week vacation, spanning the last week of December and the first week of January. Students return to class Tuesday, Jan. 9

January 2018

8, Professional development day No class for students, but teachers and staff report to campus one day before the third grading period begins. 15, Martin Luther King Day Schools closed to student and staff in observance of the holiday.

February

15-19, Professional development days No class for students, but teachers and staff report to campus. President's Day is Feb. 19.

March

8, End of the third grading period 9, Professional development No class for students, but teachers and staff report to campus. 12-16, Spring Break Students and teachers return to school and begin the final grading period March 19.

April

10-13, STAAR testing 27, Professional development day No class for students, but teachers and staff report to campus.

May

7-18, STAAR Testing 25, Last day of class The final grading period ends with an early release day. Summer vacation begins for students. 28, Memorial Day Schools closed to student and staff in observance of the holiday. 29-31, Professional development day The school year ends for teachers and staff, with four professional development days in May before summer vacation begins.
