As the first day of school inches closer, students at McKinney ISD and Collin College will participate in orientation this week. In addition to back-to-school events, McKinney National Airport is holding a public hearing to discuss its master plan.

Here is what you need to know in McKinney this week:

1. Student registration is open for McKinney ISD students


Student registration is available online through the Home Access Center. Beginning Monday, new students and parents can go to their zoned campus to complete the registration process after completing the online registration process. Students need to contact their home school for times. www.mckinneyisd.net/enrollment

2. On-campus new student orientation for Collin College is Tuesday


Attendees can learn about Collin College, academic advising and the online student platform; go on a campus tour, and partake in a faculty roundtable to ask various questions. 5-7 p.m. Free. Central Park Campus, 2200 W. University Drive, McKinney. www.collin.edu

3. Texas Department of Transportation to hold public hearing on SH 121 improvements


On Tuesday, TxDOT will hold a public hearing on the proposed improvements on SH 121. Proposed improvements include widening SH 121 from two lanes to a four-lane divided road from the Collin County Outer Loop to north of CR 635. This proposed project would take place in Collin and Fannin counties. 6 p.m. (view plan), 7 p.m. (formal hearing). First Baptist Church Melissa, 2101 E. Melissa Road, Melissa. 4. The public is invited to view McKinney National Airport Master Plan

McKinney National Airport will hold two public open house events Wednesday and Thursday. At each open house, attendees will discuss categories within the airport’s master plan, including the airport's ability to meet Federal Aviation Administration safety, design and geometry standards for its runway and taxiway system; capacity improvements; and landside facility enhancements regarding the terminal area, aircraft parking and future hangar development. 5:30-7 p.m. (Wed. and Thu.). 5. Local shops open late for Shopping Safari Night
