3. The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce hosts the 39th annual Chairman's Ball Aug. 12. The event honors the outgoing board chairwoman, Linda Head, of Lone Star College System. 4. Tax Free Weekend takes place this weekend, Aug. 11-13 throughout the state as families prepare for the new school year. Retail goods such as clothing, school supplies and backpacks are tax free during the weekend. A list of items eligible for tax exemption can be found here.
