Chairman's Ball, city meetings: 4 things to know in The Woodlands this week, Aug. 7-12

1. The city of Oak Ridge North holds a special meeting Aug. 7 to discuss the proposed tax rate for the upcoming 2018 fiscal year. Council will also approve public hearings for the tax rate, proposed for Aug. 21 and 24. 27424 Robinson Road, Oak Ridge North. 281-292-4648.

2. The city of Shenandoah holds its monthly city council meeting Aug. 9. Agenda items of note include a motion to approve a new fence at the Toddler Park and a discussion regarding last weekend's budget workshop. 29955 I-45 N., Shenandoah. 281-298-5522.

3. The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce hosts the 39th annual Chairman's Ball Aug. 12. The event honors the outgoing board chairwoman, Linda Head, of Lone Star College System. This year's event, themed Celebrating the Heart of Our Community, features live music, dancing and food. 4. Tax Free Weekend takes place this weekend, Aug. 11-13 throughout the state as families prepare for the new school year. Retail goods such as clothing, school supplies and backpacks are tax free during the weekend. A list of items eligible for tax exemption can be found here.
