1. Council to discuss proposed tax rate during Monday’s City Council Meeting

At the meeting, McKinney City Council will vote to approve the purchase of body cameras for the McKinney Police Department. If approved the cameras, associated hardware, software and services from Watch Guard, the supplier, will total $340,204.08, according to city documents. Council will also discuss the fiscal year 2017-18 proposed tax rate and schedule public hearings. The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at the Jack Hatchell Collin County Administration Building, 2300 Bloomdale Road, McKinney. The agenda can be found on the city of McKinney’s website.

2. National Night Out connects residents, police Tuesday night

This event joins the city of McKinney Police Department and residents to increase neighborhood spirit, improve police and community partnerships and keep the city safer. National Night Out will take place in various neighborhoods across McKinney. 3. Collin College on-campus new student orientation Wednesday

4. Independent Bank to build $52 million corporate headquarters in McKinney

The McKinney Economic Development Corp. announced on July 27 that Independent Bank will build a new $52 million corporate headquarters on more than 10 acres of property at the McKinney Corporate Center in Craig Ranch. The bank plans to create up to 400 new jobs during the next five years, said Peggy Smolen, Independent Bank marketing director.
