Here are five things residents in the Tomball and Magnolia areas should know this week:
1. The
Magnolia ISD Board of Trustees meets at 5 p.m. Monday, July 17, for a budget workshop to discuss the upcoming 2017-18 fiscal year. A
regular meeting follows at 6:30 p.m. at 31141 Nichols Sawmill Road, Magnolia.
2. The city of Tomball will consider various zoning changes for parcels of land within the city during a
regular meeting of the
Tomball City Council at 6 p.m. Monday, July 17, in City Hall, located at 401 Market St., Tomball. Council hosts a budget workshop beforehand beginning at 4 p.m.
3. The
Texas Legislature begins its special session Tuesday, July 18, as called by Gov. Greg Abbott to address legislation that failed to pass during the regular 85th session. Local representatives

4. The city of Houston planning commission holds a public hearing at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, July 20, at the City Hall Annex, 900 Bagby St., Houston, for community members to speak about proposed amendments to the city's
Major Thoroughfare and Freeway Plan. Brown Road and other Tomball-area roads are among those proposed for inclusion in the plan. After public forums in Tomball earlier this summer, the Harris County Engineering Department has submitted
revised road alignments for the Tomball-area roads.
5. Harris County Precinct 4 hosts a
summer movie night on Thursday, July 20, at Burroughs Park, located at 9738 Hufsmith Road, Tomball. The free outdoor screening of "Moana" begins at dusk.
