The Texas Department of Transportation and Harris County Precinct 4 officials are working on several road improvements in Tomball and Magnolia.
1. FM 1488 and FM 149 overpass
Completion of the Texas Department of Transportation’s project to construct a railroad overpass at FM 1488 and FM 149 in Magnolia has been delayed to the first quarter of 2018, according to TxDOT officials, although portions of the overpass are expected to open to traffic in the fourth quarter of 2017. The project will allow a direct connection between the two roadways and widen FM 1488 from two to four lanes with a center turn lane when complete.

2. Improvements at Hufsmith-Kohrville and Holderrieth roads
Harris County Commissioners Court awarded the construction contract for a traffic signal and left-turn lane at the intersection of Hufsmith-Kohrville and Holderrieth roads to WadeCon LLC on May 23. Construction is expected to take 60 days to complete once the contractor is on-site. The Tomball Economic Development Corporation provided funds for the project’s design.

3. Hufsmith-Kohrville Segment 6 widening
The project widens Hufsmith-Kohrville Road between Willow Creek Estates Lane and FM 2920 from two to four concrete lanes. According to Harris County Precinct 4 officials, construction bids were due in mid-June, and the project will be awarded in the following 90 to 120 days, after which time construction will begin.

4. FM 2978 widening
The projects to widen two portions of FM 2978 from two to four lanes have been suspended as TxDOT is awaiting utility relocation. TxDOT is working to widen the roadway between FM 1488 and Hufsmith-Conroe Road. Construction is expected to take 30 months once utilities are moved.

5. Holderrieth Road extension
The three-part road project extends Holderrieth Road east to the Grand Parkway and west to Calvert Road in Tomball. The first segment of the project, which extends Holderrieth Road west from Hwy. 249 to Calvert Road as a four-lane concrete roadway, is scheduled to go out for bid in the third quarter of 2017. Segment 2 will widen the existing roadway between Hwy. 249 and Hufsmith-Kohrville Road from two to four concrete lanes. Segment 3 will extend Holderrieth Road east from Hufsmith-Kohrville Road to the Grand Parkway at Champion Forest Drive as a four-lane roadway.
