From block parties to a call for a potential bond election, there are many events Southwest Austinites should know about over the next few days. Here's a few key things to keep in mind as you head into next week:

AISD trustees scheduled to vote on order to call for November bond election



  • Late additions to the proposed bond package put forth by the Austin ISD administration prompted district trustees to delay the vote to call for a bond election, originally scheduled for June 19, until Monday. At 7:05 p.m., the public will have a chance to provide final comments on the projects included in the package, prior to the adoption of an order calling for a November bond election at 8:15 p.m. The meeting will take place in the board auditorium of the AISD headquarters, 1111 W. Sixth St., Austin. Interested participants can sign up by calling the superintendent's office at 512-414-2412.


Orange Coworking to offer curated classes for entrepreneurs



  • Beginning June 27, Orange Coworking will offer a summer series of business-related classes for entrepreneurs every Tuesday morning from 8:30-9:30 a.m at its location in the Tanglewood Shopping Center. For more information on courses and how to sign up, visit the Orange Coworking website.


Block party will benefit Alzheimer's patients



  • Silverado Memory Care, along with other local partners, will host a block party on the 1300 block of Farrah Lane on Thu., June 29 from 1-5 p.m. The event, which will benefit the fight against Alzheimer's, will feature live music, food trucks, cold drinks, snow cones, face painting, a petting zoo and more. El Chilito throws grand opening party to celebrate new Southwest Austin location



  • Taco bar and Tex-Mex restaurant El Chilito is set to open its Southwest Austin location at 4501 Manchaca Road, Austin, on Fri., June 30. A traditional pig roast and the grand opening party will be held on the same day to celebrate. The public is encouraged to attend.
