Carol McCutcheon won Saturday’s runoff election for the open seat representing District 4 on the Sugar Land City Council, according to unofficial results from Fort Bend County.

A retired oil and gas engineer, she received 57.27 percent of votes cast, compared to opponent Qaisar Q. Imam, a senior project manager at IBM, who received 42.73 percent of votes cast, according to the county.

McCutcheon previously received 36.35 percent of the vote in the May 6 general election, compared to Imam’s 33.82 percent. Sean Burnett received 29.83 percent of the vote in the general election.

McCutcheon will replace Harish Jajoo in District 4, which includes the Smart Financial Centre, the Festival Site in Brazos River Park and Telfair Tract 5. The district will also temporarily gain Greatwood once the community is annexed in the city this December.
