
Several local transportation projects are underway in the Tomball and Magnolia areas, according to the Texas Department of Transportation and Harris County Precinct 4.
Ongoing projects
1. Construction began in late February on Phase 2 of the
Tomball Tollway extension, which will extend the existing tollway from north of FM 2920 in Tomball to Spring Creek when completed. The four-phase project is set to be complete in late 2019.

2. The TxDOT overpass project at
FM 1488 and FM 149 in Magnolia will allow a direct connection between the two roadways and widen FM 1488 to four lanes with a center turn lane.
Estimated timeline: December 2015-fourth quarter 2017
3. TxDOT is working to build an
FM 1774 overpass from FM 1488 north to FM 1486 to provide drivers a direct route over the Union Pacific railroad tracks in Magnolia.
Estimated timeline: December 2016-third quarter 2019
4.TxDOT is working to widen a 2.8-mile stretch of
FM 1774 from two to four lanes and add a center turn lane between West Lost Creek Boulevard and FM 149 in Pinehurst.

Project updates
5. Holderrieth Road extension
The three-part road project extends Holderrieth Road east to the Grand Parkway and west to Calvert Road in Tomball. The first leg of the project, which extends Holderrieth Road west from Hwy. 249 to Calvert Road as a four-lane roadway, is in the design phase and slated to go out for bid in the second quarter of 2017. Segment 2 will widen the existing roadway between Hwy. 249 and FM 2978 from two to four lanes. Segment 3 will extend Holderrieth Road east from Hufsmith-Korville Road to the Grand Parkway at Champion Forest Drive as a four-lane roadway.

6. Hufsmith-Kohrville Road widening
The five-segment road-widening project will expand the road from two lanes to four concrete lanes between Spring Cypress Road and FM 2920. Segment 6 will widen the existing roadway between Willow Creek Estates Lane and FM 2920 from two to four lanes. The segment is in the design phase and is expected to be sent out for bid in the second quarter of 2017. Segment 1 was completed in June 2016. The remaining segments are in the study phase.

7. Kuykendahl Road bridge project
A dual bridge is under construction on Kuykendahl Road over Spring Creek to mitigate traffic congestion between Montgomery and Harris counties. The right of way clearing activity has been completed on both sides of Spring Creek, bridge bents have been installed and bridge beams have been set. The project completion date has been delayed from May 17 to June 22.
