Here are four things to know this week if you live in The Woodlands area.
1. The city of Oak Ridge North will consider the approval of a new zoning district along the south side of Robinson Road, known as the Robinson Commercial District, during a joint meeting Monday with the Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council. There will be a public hearing at 6:30 p.m. to hear comments regarding the proposed rezoning followed by a final report on the proposal. If approved, the proposal would give residents the option
to turn their homes on that portion of the street into businesses in the future.
2. The Woodlands Township invited representatives from several entities to speak on the San Jacinto River Authority budget and water user rate increase during its meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday. The budget includes the financial effect of the ongoing litigation between the SJRA and two area municipalities. Although the township has no direct authority over water issues and is not involved in the litigation, the issue still affects water users in municipal utility districts in The Woodlands, according to the township.
3. Barring any special sessions called by the governor, the Texas Legislature’s 85th session comes to a close next Monday, May 29. Legislators in The Woodlands and across the state have days left to get bills to Gov. Greg Abbott’s desk. Visit
communityimpact.com throughout the week for updates regarding local legislation.
4. The annual Memorial Day in The Woodlands event takes place from 4-9 p.m. Sunday in Town Green Park, honoring military service men and women who lost their lives in the line of duty serving the U.S. The event features live music and activities for children followed by a fireworks display set to patriotic music.
