The advisory committee behind Austin ISD's
updated Facility Master Plan is in the process of developing the bond proposal it plans to bring before the district's board of trustees in June. Projects within the proposal will reflect the highest priority facility improvements to be tackled within the first six years of the Facility Master Plan's implementation.
At a May 9 board meeting, the committee reported that they were seeking to remove some of the
comprehensive projects from the first phase of implementation in order to reduce the cost of the bond package from $3.9 billion to $900 million.
Over the next month, the committee will continue refining the proposal and several chances for the public to provide input on project priorities are available. It is anticipated that the trustees could call for a November bond election on June 19.
Community members are welcome to attend any meeting, as the bond planning discussion will include schools throughout the district. This week's meetings are as follows:
- May 16: Austin High School, 1715 Cesar Chavez St., 6-8 p.m.
- May 17: Millennium Youth Entertainment Complex, 1156 Hargrave St., noon-2 p.m.
